Perfect Duluth Day

“Pawlenty should do a Sarah Palin and Step Down”

“Pawlenty should do a Sarah Palin and Step Down” that was something my friend Scott Yeazle said, speaking at a rally at city hall today. The rally was in opposition to the governor’s unallotment decisions. I’m not gonna try to be a real reporter or anything, I tried that years ago and was terrible at it, too much ego and opinion, too little filter.

And I wasn’t even there to protest. I stopped by as part of my regular duties as a (non-partisan) non-profit employee trying to get a few more low income, unemployed and struggling people in the seats at this free workshop on Thursday. (Everyone is welcome, actually, but we really want people who are very broke to benefit from it and it’s almost full.)

I learned a few things there, too, and got to hear some interesting perspectives on poverty, government and taxes. One lady (forget her name) said that the governor “unallotted” the “renter’s rebate” program for low to moderate renters starting in 2010. I didn’t write down any of what Scott or anyone said, so I may have that a bit wrong, but I got the spirit of it, he thinks that Pawlenty is running for national office and should step down so someone who wants to focus on the people of MN can be governor. Roger Reinert said that the DFL proposal may have raised taxes on the “wealthiest” Minnesotans but the counties are going to have to raise their taxes much more after the unallotment, so the governor wasn’t even acting in their best interests with his strong “no new taxes” position. I don’t understand all of the issues, and I’m not sure if all of this is true or not, but I thought it would be ok if I shared some of this stuff here, especially since I didn’t see any media there beside the Hillsider newspaper, and WDIO-DTV, and maybe PACT TV.
