The message on this postcard was composed 80 years ago today — Feb. 7, 1940. The card is postmarked the next day.
H.S. writes to Miss Lola Smith of South Bend, Ind.:
My dear Lola, How is the cold by this time? I hope all gone. We are still pegging around and frying and pickling. I went to see A. Mary this P.M. She seems to be all out of kilter. Can eat only liquids and is so weak. I forgot to mention the package last week. It came O.K. and is very pretty and dainty but I’m afraid it’s too small. I don’t know just how they should look. You can see when you come and many thanks just the same. It’s awfully icy here now. It [???] and then freezes. Tomorrow is the World Day of Prayer. Are you going? Ours is at the Christian church in the eve. We want to go. I [???] you would be here last Sunday to help eat Tender L. but was disappointed when I got your card. How about this week, but don’t expose yourself. Love, H.S. The people that [???] So was glad to get back to fire.
