I spent the better part of three days at Berserkon. This event is fast becoming a highlight in my annual calendar.
The event opened with a party at Canal Park Brewery on Thursday.
The highlight of the weekend was the presence of Steve Perrin. Perrin is one of the greatest authors in the gaming industry, and he was active all weekend long — lecturing, leading workshops, judging the work of other game masters, and leading games. He was a remarkable presence, and a person who will go on my top 50 list of people to have met in my lifetime.
A nationally recognized film-maker, Ryan Wood, brought the cast of Fear of Girls for what was the second-ever screening of the latest installment of the short film series. The first installment, itself genius in its hilarity and its touching depiction of one dimension of nerd culture, can be found here:
Additionally, one of the stars of Fear of Girls is also the nationally recognized gaming media star, the Dungeon Bastard. If you are not a gamer, this would be like bringing the game world equivalent of Low and Trampled by Turtles into a single concert.
I always love Man the Bridge. John Hoban was there, as were the Zenith City Browncoats, and I played a bazillion game demos sponsored by Rogue Robot. I look forward to playing Mobile Frame Zero there.
