Perfect Duluth Day

Hat Making for Everybody

Hey there lords and ladies of the craft! There’s a new series of hat workshops about to blossom. I’ll be starting a second series of beginning hat classes on Tuesday, June 19, from 6-7:30. There will be 6 weeks to the course.

In this course, you will make at least one felt hat from start to finish. When I say felt hat, think fedora. That material, but not (necessarily) that shape. Only softer. You will learn how to block a felt blank over antique-style hat blocks and then do a whole bunch of hand sewing. Some sewing skills are helpful but they aren’t necessary. All you need is the willingness to pick up a needle and thread and make them go. Classes will be $150 plus $56 in materials and will take place at Otlak Felt Studio on the 4th floor of the Dewitt-Seitz building.

There will also be a follow-on class on Monday nights for students that have already mastered the basics. In this session, we’ll concentrate on making fascinators. That will be a four-week session starting June 18 and costing $100.

Space is limited, so register early. You can do that by sending an email to emily @ moesewco.com. If you’d like to learn more about me (your instructor), you can find me at moesewco.com.
