Musicians from UMD's Department of Music return to the live stage in a series of outdoor concert events in April, featuring a variety of instrumental and vocal ensembles. The shows take place in UMD Lot A, near the Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium. Strict venue capacity limits have been established. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Astronomy Day 2021
Astronomy Day 2021 takes place outside the Planetarium. Staff will be passing out take-home activity kits full of fun ways to do astronomy at home. Enjoy socially-distant demonstrations and enter to win a raffle prize. Activity kits are free and will contain three activities fit for all ages. The Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium on the UMD Campus welcomes all. Astronomy Day 2023
Explore hands-on activities, watch a planetarium show, or peer out to the great beyond with a telescope (weather permitting) in the parking lot outside the planetarium. Planetarium shows will run every half hour throughout the event. There are a limited number of seats. Get a show ticket at the table just outside the planetarium hallway to reserve a space. Planetarium Show: Expedition Moons
On May 5 at 7 p.m., the Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium at UMD is hosting “Expedition: Moons” where guests will get the chance to get in the MWAP spaceship and explore the 150+ moons the solar system has to offer. Northern Nights, Starry Skies
The the UMD Institute on the Environment shows the documentary Northern Nights, Starry Skies. This documentary is a co-production of PBS North and Hamline University’s Center for Global Environmental Education. Informational tabling and refreshments begin at 5:30 p.m. The documentary showing runs from 6-7 p.m. Tabling and conversation are set up from 7-7:30 p.m. This is a free event that requires registration in order to attend.
