UMD Student Show Reception: Layers
The Department of Art & Design at the University of Minnesota Duluth presents the student exhibition Layers. This is an annual exhibition of work executed by UMD students and juried by visiting artists and designers. This year’s jurors are graphic designer Yahya Rushdi, and artist Nishant Saldanha. This art exhibition is presented by a group of senior design students at the University of Minnesota-Duluth who are seeking to raise money for Animal Allies. The show features artwork for sale from Duluth artists, students and the animals themselves. The opening event includes live music and refreshments. The works will remain on display until May 6. Opening Reception: The Duluth Fiber Handcrafters Guild
The opening reception for "The Duluth Fiber Handcrafters Guild: Janet Meany and 50 Years of Fiber Art," will be held in the Tweed Museum and the show will run through Sunday, May 21, 2023. The show focuses on the work of Guild founder and world-renowned weaving expert Janet Meany. Alongside Meany’s work is a juried exhibition of contemporary and historical work by guild members. Clay Culture: Diverse Selections from the Ceramics Collection
Curated by ceramics professors Liz James and Jim Klueg, this exhibit draws on the Tweed’s trove of claywork by regional, national and international artists. Their guiding thread in organizing the show was the richness and diversity added to the Tweed’s collection by ceramicists of color. Celebrating Native American Fashion
AICHO and the Tweed Museum of Art are hosting the Celebration of Native American Fashion fashion show. This show will have representation from eight tribal Nations with 25 models and an emcee who live within our local and tribal communities. Attendees will learn about the rich, vibrant and cultural history of past and present Native American fashion in the Great Lakes Region.
