Youth of the Year Celebration
Members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland board of directors will be joined by local business leaders and honored youth during the organization’s annual Youth of the Year celebration.
Established in 1947, the event promotes service to the club, community and family, academic success, strong moral character, life goals and the public speaking abilities of the Boys & Girls Clubs members ages 14-18.
During the event, a panel of community judges will interview the nominee and hear each youth’s story. The panel of judges then selects one Youth of the Year winner, who will participate in a state competition and a chance to compete on the national level. The National Youth of the Year receives up to an additional $50,000 scholarship and is installed by the President of the United States.
WDIO-TV News Anchor Darren Danielson will be the keynote speaker. Community leaders serving as judges for the Youth of the Year competition are: Pat Mullen, senior vice president of Allete External Affairs, Brenda Brannan, chief wealth management officer at North Shore Bank and Dr. Dianne McCaffrey, anesthesiologist at St. Luke’s Hospital.
