The Women in Music Education series features prominent musician-educators giving sessions on music literacy, Ojibwe songs and digital songwriting. UMD Music Education professors Jian-Jun Chen-Edmund and David Edmund organized this series.

Sheila J. Feay-Shaw is an associate professor and chair of music education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Dr. Feay-Shaw specializes in world music pedagogy in music education and has presented conference sessions for state, national and international conferences in Scotland, Alberta, Toronto and Norway.

Dr. Holmes is an associate professor and the coordinator of music education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. In addition to her research and teaching, Alena Holmes is a singer and songwriter performing in educational, professional and community contexts throughout the U.S.
