Wednesday Night at the Races 2019

The Young Athletes Foundation and Grandma’s Marathon invite children 14 and under to take part in running races on six summer Wednesday evenings in July and August. Registration is between 5 p.m. and 5:50 p.m. each race night, and the races begin at 6 p.m. beginning with the Courage Duluth wheelchair division (when offered) followed by the youngest age group and ending with the oldest children. The races draw an average of more than 400 children per night.

July 24: Bayfront Park
July 31: Griggs Field/James S. Malosky Stadium, UMD
Aug. 7: High School Track, Proctor High School
Aug. 14: NBC Spartan Sports Complex, Superior High School
Aug. 21: Corey Veech Memorial Field, Hermantown High School
Aug. 28: Wade Stadium (Year-end run and picnic)
Age Groups and Distances
Courage Duluth wheelchair division – 1/8 mile
4 and under – 1/8 mile
5 and 6 years old – 1/8 mile
7 and 8 years old – 1/4 mile
9 and 10 years old – 1/4 mile
11 and 12 years old – 1/2 mile
13 and 14 years old – 1/2 mile
Participation is free and each week children will receive a ribbon upon completion of their race.
The Young Athletes Foundation is a Grandma’s Marathon program that focuses on the promotion and development of healthy and active lifestyles for youth throughout the region. Since its inception in 1990, the YAF has contributed more than $800,000 to area nonprofit youth athletic organizations.
