UMD Entrepreneurship Conference 2021
The seventh annual UMD Entrepreneurship Conference brings together Twin Ports students, educators, entrepreneurs and innovators. Conference goers will hear from national, local and regional entrepreneurs. The UMD Conference is student run and is an initiative of the Labovitz School of Business and Economics.
The conference is the first large student initiative to be held in person since the COVID-19 shutdown. The theme is personal branding — “Creating Demand Through Your Personal Brand.” Students will have the opportunity to hear from different entrepreneurs about how they have built their personal and company’s success through branding. Students will also hear about the entrepreneurs’ journey to where they are today and the different hurdles they had to overcome.
Here is a little about the 2021 keynote speakers:
Nate Demars is the CEO of Pur.suit, a modern suit store with old-fashioned customer service. Since launching his business Demars has spent time mentoring students and is currently a lecturer of entrepreneurship at the Ohio State University Fisher College of Business. He also serves on the board of directors of the nonprofit Short North Alliance.
Lisa Bodine is co-owner and president of Giant Voices. She spearheads business growth and dissects business issues with incisive strategic insight honed by 20+ years of experience working with both entrepreneurs and Fortune 500 companies.
Brandon Culpepper is a UMD alum who launched PeppNation in 2012. The organization is dedicated to helping youth become well rounded citizens who take their education and play to higher levels. Culpepper is also the president and CEO of Industry Solutions Company, which provides analytical and sourcing support/solutions for customers around the globe, eliminates drinking water contaminants and addresses the immediate clean-water demands of both the domestic and international kind.
The conference will also feature a panel of entrepreneurs representing the sports, health and fitness industry. Panelist speakers include Dyami Starks from Starks Academy, Brett Taber from the Minnesota Vikings, Andrea Agar from Duluth Running Company, Shane Bauer from Grandma’s Marathon, Michael S. Rosenzweig from the Duluth Huskies, and fitness influencer Alyssa Greene.
There will be opportunities for networking and gaining a new perspective from other leaders in how they have created success in their careers and business through personal branding. The conference is free for UMD students and $20 for the general public.
