UMD Art and Design Visual Culture Lecture Series: Dr. Samuel Watson

Watson graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BA in art history and then attended graduate school at the University of New Mexico where he earned his MA in Native American history. He went on to get his Ph.D. in American Art at the University of Kansas. He has taught at Central College in Iowa and the University of Wisconsin Sheboygan and is currently a professor at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay where he teaches Modern and Contemporary art. He has published essays on the intersection of Native American art and mainstream twentieth century art movements and formerly wrote exhibition reviews for Art Papers magazine. He is currently working on several projects that incorporate his interest in gender studies and post-colonial queer theory.
