Thunder Film Fest 7
Event Navigation

Minnesota’s only Indigenous film festival is back for another year.
The theme for the seventh annual Thunder Film Fest is “Real AI: Anishinaabe Intelligence.” Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College invites Ojibwe artists and knowledge keepers Travis Novitsky, Carl Gawboy and Ricky Defoe to explore the leading role that Anishinaabe culture plays in the future. The event includes discussion, conversation, music, food, ceremony and film.
Lineup:
4 p.m. (in the auditorium at FDLTCC): Community shorts competition followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.
6 p.m. (in the commons at FDLTCC): Community feast and award ceremony.
7 p.m. (in the commons/amphitheatre at FDLTCC): Feature presentation including two documentaries, How To Heal A Sacred Lake (15 min) and Northern Nights, Starry Skies (60mins) by filmmaker John Shephard. Before the film, Carl Gawboy, Travis Novitsky and Ricky Defoe teach the audience about Ojibwe ways of seeing (illustration, photography and spiritual practice).
