The St. Scholastica Student Education Association conducts its seventh annual “Teaching Matters: Current Issues in Education” symposium. Kelly Holstine, Minnesota’s 2018 Teacher of the Year, will serve as keynote speaker, making a presentation titled “Courageous Connections: Every Heart Matters.”

Her talk will highlight the importance of owning flaws and prioritizing one’s own mental health in order to make more authentic connections with others. She will reveal the roles that vulnerability and courageous connections have in creating equity for every heart.

Holstine teaches English at Tokata Learning Center in Shakopee, Minn., and has more than 25 years of experience working with youth. She helped to design and open her school in 2012. She has worked and volunteered in the fields of education, media, team building, social services, animal rescue and theater.
