Swedish Folk Painting: Revival in the Upper Midwest
Event Navigation

This exhibition features contemporary Swedish folk paintings by Judith Kjenstad, Pieper Fleck Bloomquist and Alison Aune. The three artists have studied, and transformed, traditional Swedish dalmålningar from Dalarna, with its characteristic floral kurbits (fantastical gourd flowers), and decorative-figurative bonadsmåleri from the southern provinces of Småland and Halland into contemporary paintings.
Each artist will exhibit paintings in the content of traditional Swedish folk painting and its recent revival in the Upper Midwest.
