Studio Oil Painting with Matt Kania

In this class, attendees can learn the basics of oil painting, advance existing painting skills, or learn new working methods.
Matt Kania demonstrates and leads during each session while the class explores painting techniques. Each student receives individual instruction based on their level of experience. All class sessions involve direct painting from still life to craft representational oil paintings on canvas.
Topics covered include: creating a composition on canvas, evaluating observed color, discerning values, mixing paint colors, ways to use a paint brush, working with a palette knife, and different ways to start and finish a painting.
The class is open to beginners and intermediate painters. Students are invited to bring their own oil painting supplies, but the Duluth Art Institute has all of the necessary supplies to use during class. If a class is canceled due to weather, the make-up date is Tuesday, Feb. 21.
The class is $150 Member for Duluth Art Institute members, and $170 for non-members.
