Sister City Chef Exchange Dinner
Chef John Murray from Red Lion Smokehouse in Thunder Bay presents a five-course meal at Lake Avenue Restaurant and Bar as part of an international dinner series.
After years of discussing the potential that existed for a sister city connection through cuisine, Duluth Sister Cities International created the Sister City Chef Exchange through a partnership with the Thunder Bay Sister City Advisory Committee. Last year’s initial exchange focused on the shared northern experience of living on Lake Superior’s shore and highlighted the ingredients available to chefs in the region as well as local craft beers to complement each course.
Though the focus on the food remains just as important, this year’s exchange has seen an increased incorporation of surrounding events to entice guests who may be visiting from out of town to stay for a long weekend. Beginning on Saturday, March 9, guests who are staying at the Radisson will be able to access the Hopper, Duluth’s newest brewery shuttle, right outside the hotel every hour as part of a special stop added to the normal Saturday evening route and take a trip around Duluth’s craft breweries free of charge.
Other optional events include a tour of Hoops Brewing and a performance by Thunder Bay musician Robin Ranger at the Ripple Bar on Lake Superior on Sunday evening, as well as a complimentary Sleeping Giant Brewing Co. beer tasting prior to the dinner on Monday night.
The Chef Exchange is the latest in a series of events aimed at reinvigorating ties between Duluth and Thunder Bay, the Zenith City’s oldest and closest sister city. The second half of the exchange will occur on April 8 in Thunder Bay at the new Red Lion Smokehouse restaurant.
