Scenic St. Louis River Railroad Tours and Choo Choo Paddle
An event every week that begins at 1:30 pm on Saturday, repeating until Oct 15, 2016
The Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad tourist train departs on two excursions — 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. — every Saturday and Sunday, through Oct. 16, for a one-hour and 40-minute ride along the St. Louis River.
The ride departs from the ticket office just off Grand Avenue, across from the Lake Superior Zoo, behind the Little Store. Reservations are not necessary, however, group tickets may be purchased in advance.
The ride follows the last six miles of the 1870s track of the first train into Duluth, the original Lake Superior & Mississippi.
Riders can also experience the St. Louis River via kayak. Paddlers are picked up at the Spirit Lake Marina in Duluth’s Riverside neighborhood and ride the train to Boy Scout Landing in Gary-New Duluth. There they debark to enjoy a paddle along the river.
Call 218-628-3578 for reservations. Rental rates: $45 for single-person kayaks; $35 per person for two-person canoes. Train ride and transport of personal kayak/canoe is the general $15 per person excursion rate.
