Plys with Purpose 2019
Prøve Gallery hosts the fifth edition of the Plys with Purpose exhibition and silent auction of skateboard decks crafted by local and international artists who share one purpose: the building of skateboard parks.
The exhibition remains on view until June 21.
Artists have been selected based on the affect they have had in their respective skateboard communities, the influence of skateboard culture in their life, and their willingness to donate their time and talents in contributing to a public skatepark for everyone to enjoy. Generator Distribution has donated 30 blank skateboards to serve as the artists’ “canvas.” The artists paint, draw, destroy, rebuild and recreate the boards into unique visions. All skateboard decks will be part of a silent auction that will begin during the reception and continue online for the duration of the exhibition.
Proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to the Gary New Duluth Development Alliance for its ongoing efforts to build a public, state-of-the-art skateboard park in Gary New Duluth, designed by nationally recognized skate park designer Mark Leski, aka “The Wizard.” For more information about to the GND progress or to contribute visit gnd.community.
Prøve has raised more than $12,000 through Plys With Purpose over the past four years. Construction of the park is an ongoing project and continued support from the community is needed to help realize the vision of the Gary New Duluth Recreation Center. In addition to Plys and significant grants, Prøve Gallery joins the Gary New Duluth Development Alliance in reaching out to the Twin Ports community for support.
The exhibition is supported by members and friends of Prøve Gallery, Generator Distribution, Damage Boardshop, HUF, Fulton Brewery, and the Gary New Duluth Development Alliance. Operating support is made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, thanks to legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage funds.
Prøve Gallery is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) contemporary and experimental art gallery located in downtown Duluth.
