Local Solutions to Poverty Accountability Session
Last year at the Local Solutions to Poverty Candidate Forum, candidates for city council and mayor agreed to action steps to improve the lives of low-income Duluthians. This forum will be a follow-up on those action steps to track progress and continue to push for a more fair and equitable Duluth. City councilors and the mayor will have a chance to share about their projects relating to the three priorities listed below. There will also be updates from all other proposed action steps from the 2015 Local Solutions to Poverty Candidate Forum.
1. Will you follow the lead of Minneapolis and commit to finding the full funding for one or more nonwhite equity coordinators, who are committed to serving our City of Duluth?
2. Will you commit to amending the Duluth Human Rights Ordinance to include people experiencing homelessness, those who have experienced homelessness and those perceived as homeless as a protected class?
3. Within 90 days of assuming office, will you commit to developing policies and procedures to ensure that city staff from all departments as well as members of all public boards and commissions more accurately reflect the community they serve, with a specific goal of increasing the number of people of color in these positions?
