James J. Hubert Reinterment
United States Marine Corps Sergeant James Joseph Hubert, killed in the 1943 Battle of Tarawa, is repatriated home to Duluth for this formal military funeral. He will be buried in the Soldier’s Rest Section of Calvary Cemetery, near his mother.
In June 2015 Sgt. Hubert’s remains were discovered in an unmarked burial trench on Betio Island, along with other officers and men of the Second U.S. Marine Division who perished there.
Nearly 79 years after he started his military career, Sgt. Hubert finally returns home.
