Event Navigation

Veterans Memorial Hall, a program of the St. Louis County Historical Society, presents the next event in the local history discussion series, “History in a Pint.” The presentation is titled “The Frozen Chosin.”

Robert “Bob” Johnson of Duluth will tell stories of his experiences in the Korean War, sometimes referred to as “The Forgotten War.” As a member of B Company Marines, 4th Infantry Battalion, Johnson was activated to service, sent to Camp Pendleton and assigned to the Korean conflict. Of the 227 men who were called up, 10 were killed in action and the company sustained 80 percent casualties in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. The aptly named “Frozen Chosin” is for their heroic struggle against overwhelming numbers in the bitter cold of a North Korean winter. Surrounded on all sides by Chinese military, the Marines had to fight their way out inflicting heavy casaulities on the enemy in the process.

Guests are advised to park in the parking ramp behind and connected to the Sheraton Hotel, which is across the street from Carmody.
