Hawk Weekend Festival 2018
This annual celebration of bird migration includes field trips, workshops, presentations, social gatherings and a member meeting. The festival runs Sept. 21-23.
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Bird Migration and Programs at Hawk Ridge Nature Reserve
3 to 5:30 p.m. – Birding and Natural History Train Trip on Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad
The Hawk Ridge Nature Reserve is one of North America’s best places to experience the spectacle of the fall raptor migration. Migrating birds, including raptors and passerines, concentrate in impressive numbers at the western tip of Lake Superior. Some travel from as far away as the Arctic and pass through Duluth on their way to their wintering areas to the south. Migrants funnel down the North Shore along the ridges that overlook the city.
