Guided Hike on the Gil Larsen Trail
The Bayfield Regional Conservancy leads this guided hike along the Gil Larsen Trail in Bayfield.
This quaint trail follows the Big Ravine Forest’s stream under an old iron bridge to an overlook. This trail is named for Gilbert Larsen, a conservationist who grew up near the ravine and someone who had a lifelong interest in the wise use and management of natural resources. The trail offers a first-hand experience in conservation as the trees have regrown following the ravine flood of 1942.
Directions: Travel uphill from the ferry-boat landing on Washington Avenue in Bayfield. You’ll see the Iron Bridge and parking area on your right. Trail starts at the sign near the parking area
Since 1996, the Conservancy has permanently preserved more than 4,650 acres of private and public lands. Public properties include the Frog Bay Tribal National Park in Red Cliff, Brownstone Trail, Big Ravine Forest Preserve in Bayfield, Houghton Falls Nature Preserve in Washburn and Lincoln Community Forest to name a few.
