Grandma’s Marathon Rock the Big Top 2018 Featuring Sugar Ray
Rock band Sugar Ray headlines this year’s Grandma’s Marathon “Rock the Big Top” event, performing in the Northwest Iron parking lot between Grandma’s Saloon and the DeWitt-Seitz Marketplace. The entertainment lineup will also include supporting artists Belfast Cowboys and Big Wave Dave and the Ripples.
Sugar Ray, led by vocalist Mark McGrath, gained mainstream fame with its breakthrough hit song “Fly,” which put the band on the map in 1997. This song’s success led the band to adopt a mainstream, pop-music style. Future hits included “Every Morning,” “Someday” and “Falls Apart.” The success continued with the release of a self-titled album that included the hit “When it’s Over” and garnered the band its first top-10 album. Sugar Ray continues to deliver the hits live with the Summerland tour, which combines the band’s top 10 hits along with other music from the 1990s.
Big Wave Dave and the Ripples, a Duluth-based band comprised of a singer, rhythm section, and a four-piece horn section will play a combination of covers and originals featuring funk, soul, blues and rock music.
