John Steffl Gallery. All ages. Learn to sculpt headwraps with exhibiting artist Chesley Antoinette. Each workshop participant receives a scarf to sculpt and embellish, inspired by the collection of headwraps on view in Antoinette’s show Tignon. As participants incorporate their personal style, they will learn the history of the 1786 Tignon Law and uncover how the headwrap became a symbol of rebellion in Louisiana — subverting intentional oppression by enhancing beauty, intelligence and adaptability.
