Ernest Miller Workshop: Engineering the Thrown Pot
Ernest Miller teaches his versatile approach to making pottery influenced by sculptural concepts duluth this two-day workshop. Using the potter’s wheel as a starting point, participants will learn techniques for altering the thrown form including paddling, carving and faceting. Demonstrations will introduce cups, teapots, baskets and throwing larger vessels. Participants will also learn finishing ideas such as slip application, glazing, formulation and ideas to consider for a cone nine electric kiln firing. Miller will discuss insights about his studio practice, researching ideas and embracing utilitarian and sculptural concepts.
The workshop runs Fri., Jan. 10 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Sat., Jan 11 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Students are welcome to bring bone-dry pieces to experiment with slip and wax resist techniques.
The cost is $150 for members and $180 for non-members.
