Dye like a Viking is an exploration of natural dyes used in Viking textiles – based on archeological evidence.
Students learn to prepare dye baths, mordant fibers, modify colors and identify dye plants. Students receive eight 25-yard skeins of yarn to dye, enough for them to create a project. This introductory class also discusses ethical harvesting, ways to modify colors and sources for further exploration.
Students should bring a waterproof bag to bring their samples home.
