Duluth Explorers Club: Alexandera Houchin
Alexandera Houchin shares her adventures in this month’s Duluth Explorers Club gathering.
Alexandera Houchin’s first bike tour consisted of herself, a backpack, a tent and a brakeless fixed gear bicycle destined for Boulder, Colorado (she added brakes on the second day.) After several years of working as a bicycle delivery gal/nanny/bike mechanic/bike salesman, she quit her jobs to attend welding school. Upon graduating from that program, Alexandera celebrated with a traverse of the Great Divide mountain bike trail, which she finished in some 45+ days. She has since ridden from border to border three times, winning the female division of this year’s Tour Divide race from Canada to Mexico. She’s participated in bikepacking races in Colorado, Idaho and Arizona and dabbled in marathon running. She’s even stuck a proverbial toe in the world of canoe racing. She once weighed over 300 pounds. To become who she is today, she had to learn lesson after lesson the old fashioned way.
Alexandera is fueled by a desire to use her outdoor experiences to inspire others, and especially kids, to identify their own goals and reach for the stars.
Cocktails for purchase at 7 p.m.; presentation at 7:30 p.m.
