Duluth All Souls Night 2018
This annual fall multicultural arts festival observes the change of season with displays, ceremony, spectacle, poetry, a funeral march and fire spinning. The theme this year: “It’s about respect.”
Maximus, the 17-foot-tall skeleton marionette, will be present.
This event is about honoring ancestors, grieving losses, naming rotten ideas that need to die and imagining a better world. Many traditions are represented.
Dress for a funeral or as a skeleton. There will be a neutral skull face-painting area.
Attendees are welcome to bring photocopies of passed beloved individuals and animals to add to the community altar, but should use discretion about leaving irreplaceable objects. Organizers ask that attendees research and share their own culture and grief traditions and don’t appropriate. Mexican candy skull face paint is for those of Hispanic heritage.
Attendees can pay what they are able; the recommended donation is $10.
