Day Out with Thomas Special Sensory-free Event
The North Shore Scenic Railroad is hosting a sensory-free Day Out with Thomas the Tank Engine. Special arrangements have been made through Autism Speaks Minnesota and Mattel, the brand manager for Thomas and Percy, along with HIT Entertainment and KC Consulting to put on a special half day for families with youngsters on the spectrum.
This is All Things Thomas but without the distractions of large crowds, noise, whistles, loud music, bells and confusion. Events are organized in a manageable series of activities that match each person’s own pace and comfort. Families were encouraged to participate with free tickets for a member with autism and an adult. The tickets are provided by US Bank and bank employees from Duluth are volunteering their time to help manage the experience.
The sensory-free Thomas event is hosted in part by Duluth Mayor Emily Larson, who will give a welcoming message at 10 a.m.
Train rides with Thomas along the Lakewalk, an appearance by his best friend Percy and Sir Topham Hatt, and other activities such as face painting, storytelling, videos, photo opportunities, a controlled bounce-house experience and tours of the Lake Superior Railroad Museum are all included. Volunteers do receive special event training to help guest/visitors manage.
A limited number of tickets were available. They went fast.
