Grand Marais Dark Sky Festival Day Two
Grand Marais celebrates the night sky with the Dark Sky Festival on Friday, Dec. 13 and Saturday, Dec. 14.
Saturday’s festivities begin at 3:15 p.m. with a dark skies open panel and question and answer session. The session lasts until 4:15 p.m.
Presentations start at 6 p.m., beginning with Mark Hollabaugh’s presentation “Dancers in the Sky: Native Americans and the Night Sky.”
At 7 p.m., WCCO meteorologist Mike Lynch presents on how various indigenous cultures in North America understood the night sky and leads guided telescope time.
At 8:30 Travis Novitsky and Joel Halvorson close out the festival with their presentation “Dark Sky Adventures.” Novitsky and Halvorson will share stories, insights,and adventures to help illuminate the mystery and beauty of the dark skies still found in Minnesota’s Arrowhead region.
