Community Garden Spring Fling 2017

Apr 8, 2017, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Event Navigation

The Duluth Community Garden Program will open its garden plot rental 2017 season to the public at its annual plot sign up event. Local farming and gardening organizations will be present to share tips and answer questions. Free food will be available and local musicians will perform.

DCGP manages over 255 garden plots in 19 different spaces across the city. DCGP rents plots to community members for a small, annual, sliding scale fee ($20 to $100) based on self-reported income, as well as provides resources, tools, water and works to cultivate the gardening community. Garden plots can be rototilled if the renting gardener wants by DCGP for an additional small sliding scale fee ($10 to $30). Gardens are present in neighborhoods from Riverside to Arrowhead Road. If community members have a non-DCGP garden, but would like to use the resources DCGP provides, they can become members of the organization for $25.

DCGP is now entering its 40th year. The organization was started in 1977 by local volunteers who saw a need for space to grow healthy food in the Hillside of Duluth. With a little community organizing, shoveling, seeds and a Community Development Block Grant, the organization was born. To rent a plot or get involved check out duluthcommunitygarden.org, call 218-722-4583, or join DCGP at the Spring Fling.
