Christmas City of the North Parade 2017
The 57th annual Christmas City of the North Parade has been an annual holiday tradition in Duluth since the 1950s. It features marching bands, dance performances, colorful floats and an appearance by Santa Claus. This year’s route utilizes 13 blocks of Superior Street, from Ninth Avenue East to Fourth Avenue West.
The parade is broadcast live on KBJR-TV channel 6.1 and online at kbjr6.com.
Parade units will begin lining up at 4 p.m. along London Road between 10th and 14th avenues east, and the upper side of London Road from 14th to 17th avenues east. The parade then moves up to Ninth Avenue East for the start and continues West on Superior Street to Fourth Avenue West, where parade units disperse — marching bands down to Michigan Street and floats west to Fifth Avenue West.
London Road will close to vehicle traffic at 4 p.m. from 10th Avenue East to 14th Avenue East, as will 12th and 13th avenues east.
Superior Street and Michigan Street will close to vehicle traffic at 5:45 p.m. Vehicles will be allowed to exit Michigan Street lots and ramps, but will be directed down to the Fifth Avenue West off ramp.
The Duluth Transit Authority will use First Street for westbound runs and Second Street for eastbound runs.
Free parking is available downtown after 5 p.m. in ramps at Fourth Avenue Auto Park, Duluth Transportation Center, Fitger’s Brewery Complex, Duluth Technology Village, Medical District Ramp, Phoenix Parking Lot, St. Luke’s Hospital Ramp, St. Luke’s Employee Parking Lot, Civic Center Ramp, US Bank and the lot at First Avenue East and First Street.
