Christmas City Express on the North Shore Scenic Railroad at Lake Superior Railroad Museum is an annual train ride and storytelling experience. Trains leave from the Depot on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Nov. 23 to Dec. 22. Times on Fridays and Saturdays are 4:15, 5:15, 6:15 and 7:15 p.m. Sunday times are 3:15, 4:15 and 5:15 p.m.
Tickets include the performance of the Christmas City Express, live music, the train ride, a visit from Santa Claus, hot cocoa and cookies and a magical souvenir ornament to take home.
Performers tell the journey of a young girl traveling to Duluth to visit her grandparents on Christmas Eve. The steam train departs with everyone excited about being home for the Holidays. But a terrible storm overtakes the train and traps it in a mountainous snow drift, stranded for the night.
Everyone on board the train, while safe, fears Christmas will be lost. What the girl and the train crew do next saves Christmas for everyone.
After the story in the Train Museum, there’s a short train ride on the North Shore Scenic Railroad. The fully decorated holiday train travels past Bentleyville and along the edge of Lake Superior.
New this year is an enhanced multimedia video accompaniment to the performers telling the story of the train.
Tickets are $18 for adults and $16 for children age 3 and up. Children age 2 and under are free and do not require a reservation.
