A screening of the award-winning film featuring a live, in-person Q&A with writer/director/actor Remy Auberjonois (Mad Men, Weeds, Michael Clayton).
The film explores a character that is relatively new to both U.S. policy and to movies — a fully-combat-participatory female soldier. Co-filmmakers Remy Auberjonois and Kate Nowlin (the pair co-wrote the film, while Auberjonois directed and Nowlin stars) deftly feminize the warrior archetype while building the story to an emotional crescendo, bringing the impact of post-traumatic stress into sharp focus. It is both an unusual and universal portrait of trauma and war’s cost to the individual and society.
The film, shot primarily in Minneapolis and on the Iron Range, was the recipient of the Best U.S. Fiction Feature Award at the 2016 Los Angeles Film Festival, the Audience Award at the 2016 Austin Film Festival, and both the Audience Award and the Indie Vision Breakthrough Performance Award at the 2016 Twin Cities Film Festival.
