Antigone

Jan 13, 2018, 7:30 pm | $15 – $30 | Dudley Experimental Theatre

Event Navigation

UMD Theatre presents an encore run of Sophocles’ ancient tragedy, Antigone. The play’s universal questions of power and civic duty are posed through a modern translation reflecting current political conflicts. The show is directed by Jenna Soleo-Shanks and based on the translation by Don Taylor.

Minnesota House Representative Jennifer Schultz will lead a talk-back discussion following the show, where audience members can ask questions and talk about how Antigone reflects the political climate of 2018.

The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival has again invited UMD to perform at the Region 5 Festival in Des Moines, Iowa. Antigone is one of only seven productions selected for the seven-state KCACTF regionals January 21-27.

Due to the sold out September and October shows, and to help defray travel costs to KCACTF, UMD Theatre is hosting two encore performances of this highly acclaimed show.

The show runs approximately one hour and forty minutes with no intermission. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for students.
