Tour of Old City Hall

A wonderful video tour of Old City Hall made by Dan Hartman. Very cool. Can’t wait for it to be done!

Danecdote Live – April 28

So I noticed after posting many a flyer around town that some people just didn’t like them, and proceeded to tear them down. Go figure. Anyways, this is my last ditch effort to get the people of Duluth down to the Rex tonight. I promise lots of fun and plenty of dancing opportunities.

My fellow Duluthians, I plead for your faces to appear tonight, and your bodies and your energy!

Duluth Milk Bottle Mystery

I was out on a walk with the dog yesterday evening on a country road north of Duluth, the same road I’ve walked literally hundreds of times the past few years.

Council says yes to purchase of NorShor

Predictably, it was a 6-3 vote. The easy part is over. Now the work begins. This ought to be interesting.

Challenge #1: Actually close the sale.

Challenge #2: If the strip club agrees to move out, will it open somewhere else? Wherever “somewhere else” might be, that’ll be a fun little controversy.

Challenges #3 through #209: Figure out how to fix the place up, get someone running it who can make it work, and everything that comes up along the way.

Chicken Spur

I first became aware two years ago that people refer to the Spur convenience store at the foot of the Blatnik Bridge in Superior as the “Chicken Spur.”

I found that out in the comments of a somewhat-related PDD post: “I’m old and I don’t understand anything, part one.”

9) Theater of the Variegated

You never know what to expect at the Historic NorShor Theater (211 East Superior Street, 218-733-0072), an oasis of culture in a scruffy section of downtown. Opened as the Orpheum in 1910 and later remodeled in Art Deco style, the timeworn Norshor is part movie theater, part concert hall, part performance space, part art exhibit hall and part whatever whim strikes the management. One July weekend featured a showcase of local and Twin Cities bands; the next included all-day showings of “Dr. Strangelove.”

Bike Safety Tips from Dr. Dog

One band that I really love and beg to come to Duluth made a great video for bike safety.  FYI Critical Mass and tourists coming to Canal Park.
