UUCD Forums: St Mark’s Giving Garden
The St. Mark Giving Garden is a food justice project building intergenerational and community connection, racial equity, healing and empowerment in the Duluth Hillside neighborhood, a partnership between St. Mark AME Church and Health Equity Northland. Interns from St. Mark Giving Garden will take attendees on a virtual tour of the Garden’s herb, produce and pollinator beds, utilities and social spaces, sharing gardening knowledge they have acquired in areas such as intercropping, harvesting and processing of herbs. The UMD Volunteer Fair is an annual event for students to connect with diverse volunteering opportunities in the Duluth community. Representatives from dozens of local organizations table at the event to provide information and answer questions about their unique volunteer programs. The opportunities offered by the fair encompass a broad spectrum of fields, including childhood enrichment, animal care, environmental conservation, healthcare, the arts, faith-based service, outreach to underprivileged communities and much more.

Every Saturday from June to September the Eco3 Urban Farm is open for activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help out with farm projects and enjoy the fresh air. This week, from 10 to 11 a.m., Jake Tremble of Out Yonder Art Adventures leads an outdoor art workshop. The 2023 Great Lakes Day of Action will include The Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve’s fall cleanup. Volunteers across the Great Lakes are cleaning the shorelines and contributing litter data to help researchers and policy makers develop upstream solutions. Advanced registration is appreciated but not required. Snacks and cleanup supplies will be provided, but please bring work gloves if you have them. Dress for the weather and bring sturdy footwear. The rain date will be September 30.

Friends of the Lakewalk welcome community volunteers of all ages for Duluth’s Adopt-a-Beach event. Puppa's Pals is one of Duluth's newest nonprofits. It exists to provide temporary housing for the pets of people experiencing crises like hospital stays, chemical dependency treatment, jail, domestic violence, or any other situation where they have to give up care of their beloved pet temporarily. Harm Reduction Sisters is composed of a dedicated team of volunteers, staff, and community members who collectively create a network of harm reduction education, access, and resource sharing across Northern Minnesota. In this Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Duluth Forum, Dori Decker of Western Lake Superior Sanitary District presents "Composting: Make Green Gold, Not Greenhouse Gasses."
