Duluth Children's Museum is offering monthly Play and Learn sessions. Caregivers and children will enjoy a hands-on STEAM program, followed with museum exploration. Other early childhood development resources provided by the Northland Foundation will be available to participants. Pre-registration is not required and sessions are open for everyone.

Duluth Playhouse Youth Theatre presents Disney’s Finding Nemo Jr., a stage adaptation of the beloved Pixar movie with a new score from the songwriting team of Frozen. Performances run April 26-28. With a commitment to providing performance opportunities for young people, Duluth Playhouse Youth Theatre allows students to put their skills into action while connecting with their peers and growing as young artists.

Calling all scientists. Explore the wonder of the natural world, build amazing inventions and solve problems using science, technology, engineering art and math — activities are best suited to youth aged 8-12 years old. Kids and teens of all levels of experience can learn bike-check basics from their peers during this event. Topics covered include fixing a flat, lubricating a chain, aligning brakes, setting a seat and more. Afterward, participants can join a family slow-roll following the workshop to Continental Ski and Bike for a Bike Swap preview party.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources offers free admission to all 75 Minnesota state parks and recreation areas on four days each year. On Free Park Days the DNR waives the requirement for a vehicle permit to enter state parks and recreation areas. The entrance fee waiver does not cover activities like camping, rentals or tours. Huge sale featuring all things fiber: yarn, fabric, spinning and weaving supplies, needle-craft supplies, sewing notions and more. Intake and setup will be held on Friday, April 26th from 3-6 p.m. Clean up and pickup of unsold items is from 1-1:30 p.m. the day of the sale.

Join the CSS String Orchestra and pianists Jessica Schroeder and Emily Valine as they perform Camille Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals, with narration by Kevin Quarmby. The program will also feature additional CSS student ensembles and kids will have an opportunity to try out various musical instruments for themselve. General admission is $7 for adults and free for all kids and students, pre-K to college, and free for Sisters of the St. Scholastica Monastery.

Justice North, formerly Legal Aid Service of Northeastern Minnesota, presents the annual family-friendly Law Day 5K run/walk. The 5K begins and ends at the Duluth East High School parking lot. The course follows the Duluth Lakewalk and returns to the school for a post-race gathering, refreshments and tours of Justice North's Justice Bus. Proceeds benefit Justice North. The DM&IR #332 steam locomotive is pulling special excursion trains on the North Shore Scenic Railroad on select dates from May 11 to Oct. 27. The STEAM Festival is a community event focusing on science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. There will be a mix of hands-on experiments, exhibits, and interactive activities from local organizations including the Denfeld DNA robotics team, Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, 4-H, Duluth PTSA and more. Kids will be encouraged to engage in experiments and art projects, interact with robots in action and view educational displays.
