Love Stinks
The Humane Society of Douglas County, Inc.'s is doing an anti-Valentine's Day fundraising campaign called Love Stinks from January 29 - February 14. During this event, a $5 donation can purchase as many poo-hearts as you wish. Our staff will write the name of your “un-special” person, place or thing on a heart that will be placed in our shelter kitties’ litter boxes for stinky retribution. Dive into the nighttime world of owls and unravel the secrets of their extraordinary hunting abilities during this kid’s program. What is their role in the forest food web? Participants get a hands-on look while dissecting owl pellets. Limited number of owl pellets, so sign-up ahead of time to make sure you get a spot. Introduction to Horsemanship

Ryan Pennesi is a wildlife and nature photographer living on the North Shore of MN, based in Finland. He will share photography stories and techniques from his journey as an artist. Ryan’s specialty is "remote camera trapping" which involves a motion sensor and off-camera flashes. He will discuss the history of camera trapping and what it can teach us in the modern age. He is most interested in using the images and the accompanying tales as conservation tools.

During the course of this three-day class, build a complete Langstroth beehive and learn the basics of keeping honeybees in Northern Minnesota, so that you are ready to put some bees in your hive later this spring! You will learn what it takes to keep your bees healthy and happy, a little bit of honeybee biology and of course basic beekeeping skills.
