SUMMARY:NorthShore Inline Marathon 2026
DESCRIPTION:The 30th annual NorthShore Inline Marathon is a skating race along Highway 61. The half marathon starts at 6:45 a.m. and the full marathon starts at 8:45 a.m. The course follows the same route as Grandma’s Marathon from Two Harbors down the North Shore\, then rolls through the I-35 tunnels. \nIn addition to the full and half inline marathons\, there is a combined 39.3 marathon and a 10k skate through the tunnels. \nRaces in other disciplines include the full and half roller-ski marathons\, and a half marathon and 10k freeway tunnel race for runners. \nSeveral area roads are closed during the marathon. Parking is prohibited on the closed roads\, and vehicles found in violation are subject to ticketing and towing. Roads re-open from east to west as racers near the finish area. All roads reopen by 2 p.m. \nDowntown Duluth and Canal Park remain open to traffic during this event.

DESCRIPTION:For the 44th year\, Korkki Nordic Ski Center hosts their annual 10K on the single-track ski trail. This is a “wet\, muddy and challenging” 10K through the woods. After the race\, attendees are awarded race prizes within many categories. The event also features door prizes\, a BBQ and drinks. Kids can join in on a race around the field. \nThe cost is $40\, or $20 for youth\, high schoolers and college students. While the early bird registration deadline has passed\, most if not all runners will receive this year’s race shirt. \nOrganizers suggest bringing a change of clothes for after the race.

DESCRIPTION:The 42nd annual Chester Bowl Fall Fest features 135 vendors displaying arts\, crafts\, produce and information about local programs\, along with 15 food venders\, live music and activities for children.  \nSuggested donations of $5 per person or $10 per family are accepted at the entrance to support Chester Bowl’s scholarship program\, supporting low-income children and families who want to ski\, snowboard or attend summer camp but aren’t able to afford the registration fees. Last year the community supported Chester Bowl with $12\,250 in donations. That funding — along with a silent auction and Warren Miller film screening in November — enabled Chester Bowl to award $22\,882 in winter scholarships to more than 100 different families and to support more than 150 weeks of camp with $31\,784 in scholarships in summer 2026.  \nThe public is encouraged to use the three free shuttle buses that run continuously from the University of Minnesota Duluth parking lot B\, located at the intersection of College Street and University Drive. Parking is very limited near the event\, so walking\, biking or using the shuttles is highly recommended. There are a limited number of handicapped accessible parking spots near the entrance to the park. \nThe rain date is Sunday\, Sept. 20\, with the same hours.

SUMMARY:Duluth River Train
DESCRIPTION:Duluth River Train excursions on the Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad depart at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays until Oct. 18. The two-hour rail journey is a round trip along the St. Louis River estuary. It is a family-friendly\, volunteer-run event. \nThe narrated tour takes passengers along the original Lake Superior & Mississippi line in vintage coaches\, sharing the history of the community and its industries.  \nThe train ride can be paired with other outdoor activities along the estuary. The Choo-Choo Paddle Kayak Shuttle is an opportunity to paddle the National Water Trail. Passengers can also bring a bike to hit the scenic Marten Trail before or after the rail journey.  \nAll excursions depart from the ticket office at 6930 Fremont St. in West Duluth. Tickets are $26.20 for adults\, $12 for children ages 5-12 and free for ages 4 and under. Military veterans ride free on Sundays. \nRiders should arrive 20–30 minutes early for check-in. Snacks and refreshments are available onboard (cash only). Restrooms are available on the train. Due to their historic nature\, the vintage coaches are not wheelchair accessible.
