DESCRIPTION:Join the St. Louis River Alliance\, in partnership with the University of Minnesota Duluth Recreational Sports Outdoor Program and Day Tripper of Duluth\, for an evening of hands-on instruction designed to help participants become a safer\, more confident paddler. \nParticipants will customize their experience by ranking their preferred workshops during registration. Choose from dry-land\, on-water and in-water sessions covering topics such as kayak transport\, safety gear\, marine weather\, paddling techniques\, wet exits\, rescues and more. Small class sizes provide plenty of personalized instruction. \nAll kayaking equipment is provided. SUMMARY:Concerts on the Pier 2026: Climes with Skarlett Woods
DESCRIPTION:Food trucks for the night include Johnny B’s\, Gumbeaux Guys and Oasis Del Norte.  \nGlensheen’s Concerts on the Pier are an opportunity for Duluthians to wander the Glensheen grounds and enjoy free live music. Attendees are invited to bring a lawn chair or blanket. Food and drinks are available for purchase but small outside snacks and non-alcoholic drinks are allowed. Do not bring in large coolers. Service animals only are allowed on the estate. It is also encouraged to bike\, boat\, walk or kayak to the concert since parking is limited. Openers perform from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.\, continuing with headliners from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. \nThis year\, Glensheen is offering a skip-the-line package. The package includes a punchcard to all nine concerts\, allowing folks to skip the line with early access\, a 2026 Concerts on the Pier t-shirt and a sticker. Those can be purchased at tickets.umn.edu.

DESCRIPTION:The Young Athletes Foundation and Grandma’s Marathon invite children ages 14 and under to take part in Wednesday Night at the Races\, a series of seven summer running races held on six summer evenings. \nThe week’s races are at Two Harbors and Hibbing high schools. \nAge Groups and Distances\n4 and under – 1/8 mile\n5 and 6 years old – 1/8 mile\n7 and 8 years old – 1/4 mile\n9 and 10 years old – 1/4 mile\n11 and 12 years old – 1/2 mile\n13 and 14 years old – 1/2 mile \nRegistration is between 5 p.m. and 5:50 p.m.\, and the races begin at 6 p.m. Participation is free and each week children receive a ribbon upon completion of their race. \nThe Young Athletes Foundation is a Grandma’s Marathon program that focuses on the promotion and development of healthy and active lifestyles for youth throughout the region. Since its inception in 1990\, the YAF has contributed more than $1.8 million to area nonprofit youth athletic organizations.

DESCRIPTION:The Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium is gearing up to hit the road again for the annual Dark Sky Caravan on August 10th – 15th. \nMinnesota is home to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness which is the second largest International Dark Sky Sanctuary in the world. To celebrate dark skies\, Planetarium staff will be traveling along the North Shore stopping at different locations each night for a star party. Enjoy fun activities and presentations or the planetarium shows. Once it gets dark\, all can gaze through telescopes and get a live sky tour of the stars and constellations visible. Be on the lookout for meteors from the Perseid meteor shower which peaks Aug 12th-13th. If it’s cloudy\, don’t worry.
