Chaperone Records … unveiled!

Chaperone Records is Duluth’s newest, true-bluest, local-centric record label!

Founded in May of 2012, Chaperone Records is devoted to the promotion and enfranchisement of northern Minnesota’s musically progressive community. In a world of cheap, plastic gadgetry, a product’s finest aesthetic can only be achieved through passion, insight and an honest commitment to quality. This is the foundation of Chaperone Records’ philosophy and the impetus behind its inception.

Experimental Cinema

Lawrence Bernabo previewed my documentary Wild Bill’s Run on KUMD. Meanwhile, I had a bunch of mesmerizing raw footage left over from editing the film. I thought it might be a good idea to throw these two things together, sorta randomly, without thinking about it too much.

The new deckhand always gets the worst jobs. At Heritage Marine in Duluth, Captain Mike Ojard gives newbie Brandon one of the more unpleasant assignments — clean up the over-full debris pan from the Incinolet, an electric marine toilet.

This clip is from the History Channel show Great Lakes Warriors, which premieres July 19 at 9 p.m.

The adventures of two of Heritage’s boats — The Nels J. and the Helen — are featured prominently in the show.

Campaign for two Rivulets videos

[This post originally contained an embedded video that is no longer available at its source.]

Video director Adam Barnick is running a crowd-funding campaign to produce two Rivulets videos.

Rivulets is the musical outlet of part-time Duluthian Nathan Amundson. (He still rents a place in Duluth, plays the Homegrown Music Festival every other year or so, and considers the Zenith City to be his “spiritual home.” Three Rivulets albums were recorded in Duluth, mostly at Sacred Heart Music Center).

River Place Campground Thefts

Residents at River Place Campground on the St. Louis River were evacuated during last week’s record flood. Shortly after, their homes were burglarized. Today they met with Duluth Police to assess their losses. Some belongings floated away in the flood, others were stolen … but residents at River Place said they feel lucky because other people in the northland had it worse.

Duluth Deluge: Daredevils

Right behind the Tappa Keg bar, across the street from the zoo, the tracks are all but gone. However, that did not deter this Duluth Deluge daredevil from making it across. Kids, do not attempt this at home, unless you’re reenacting this scene with felted socks or shadow puppets.
