The Louie Show

Minnesota-born comedian Louie Anderson starred in a CBS sitcom in 1996 that was set in Duluth. It didn’t last long. Six episodes were produced; five were aired. None of the episodes were shot in Duluth, but the opening theme featured Louie in a sweatshirt with “Duluth” across the chest and some transition footage was shot in Duluth. The show is not available on DVD or streaming on Netflix, but thanks to old VHS copies floating around town we’ve been able to pull together excerpts from four episodes (see below).

Pascal Dupuis pulls out two teeth

Former Minnesota Wild forward Pascal Dupuis, now with the Pittsburgh Penguins, catches a high stick from his teammate Kris Letang, then pulls out two teeth on the bench without missing a shift.

Three new Solomon Witherspoon videos

Former Duluthian Solomon Witherspoon has released three videos in the past three months. He has a show coming up at Clyde Iron Works on Nov. 8 in support of his new album Starlight.

Halloween Demon Interview

I got to sit down in the new Kirby Student Lounge with the Duluth Demon early Halloween morning. He showed up in full costume, including his usual mask, a body suit, gloves and boots. He was polite, at ease, and very easy to talk to.

A Video Love Letter to Chester Creek

Previously released segments united under one title, my Chester Creek magnum opus.

We want your cat (videos)

You probably heard about the Walker Art Center’s Internet Cat Video festival this summer and you were probably devastated to miss it. But don’t get your whiskers out of whack because the Zinema Theater and the Duluth Art Institute are bringing the cats north. On Dec. 10, at 7 p.m., Zinema 2 will screen the insanely popular Cat Video Film Festival along with some special videos made right here at home. Imagine – you can see your favorite feline on the big screen next to lil bub!

Hey, St. Paul, are you okay?

St. Paul mayor Chris Coleman giggles through last Thursday’s mayoral candidate forum as we hear from his opponents Sharon Anderson, (who seems to be taking the pro-bubble-wrap platform) and Kurt Dornfeld (who for some reason sees it a fitting place to make a dick joke).

And now a commercial break … from 1993

Here’s a block of 1993 Duluth-related television commercials, because, as noted before on this site, commercials stop being annoying and turn into cheesy little historical treasures when they get old.

The lineup includes: Daugherty’s, Republic Bank, Duke Skorich Assignment: Serbia/Croatia, Minnesota Surplus, KBJR 6 News: The Team to Watch, Floor to Ceiling Store, Menards and Bullyan Recreation Center.

Self Portraits While Checking Camera Settings, Summer 2013

Every time I turn my GoPro on to check the settings, it takes an accidental self-portrait. I junked the first ones before realizing these random shots could function as a record. So this is what summer 2013 in Duluth, MN was like, which I spent dressing as Aquaman and recreating in the water.

The Getarounds are not breaking up

The Getarounds (Dan Dresser and Gaelynn Lea) are going on a haitus, but not before making this video:

Feet of Lake Superior

A brief tour of Lake Superior — by foot.

Fauna of Lake Superior

All the random animals that have crossed my path over 3-4 years of summer lake videography, familiar for the most part to regional residents. There were others that didn’t make it on video including river otter, sturgeon, various birds incl. loon seen threading between underwater boulders.

Video Archive: KBJR Topline News and the Cheers party at the Western Tavern in 1993

This is the complete Topline News broadcast from May 20, 1993. You’ll notice it’s pretty short; that’s because from 1992 to 1998 KBJR experimented with an abbreviated 10 p.m. news program that ran about six minutes, not counting commercials, followed by a re-run of Roseanne with sports scores at bottom screen.
