Here’s the complete broadcast from Feb. 25 at the DECC Symphony Hall, featuring the Grand Rapids High School Jazz Ensemble and Trampled by Turtles.
I’ve been living in Duluth for a little more than a year and beyond the obvious musical history (Bob Dylan roots, Low and other indie bands, Duluth Armory, etc.) I was wondering if there has been other substantial or fun trivia with musical acts in the Twin Ports. I know Quiet Riot had its first tour start here, and that Crash Test Dummies played Sacred Heart Music Center, stuff like that.
The British Arts Council is going to be making John Peel’s entire music collection available on the interwebs in May on a website called The Space.
To anyone who went through the trouble of seeking out his Sessions albums (I had a few…Echo and the Bunnymen, Siouxie, the Cure, and Einstuerzende Neubauten to name a few), Peel was a legend and his passing in 2004 was a big blow to music lovers…
I might just have to buy a bigger hard drive.
My 5 songs in 5 days project is complete.
Enjoy (or perhaps tolerate) as you would like.
Remember when I suggested we do what we can to get Trampled by Turtles on the upcoming A Prairie Home Companion show in Duluth? Well, we did it. Check out PHC Facebook page.
The Current released Local Current, Vol 2 a few weeks ago. I couldn’t help but notice that someone in the art department there has a mutual appreciation for the Mu-Tron Phasor, an effects pedal from 40 years ago.
In last year’s Homegrown Field Guide ad, we Photoshopped up my Mu-tron Phasor. Someone at MPR has a better collection of vintage gizmos, they used the Mu-tron Phasor III.
I’m mustering a group of 12 or more dancers for a New-England Contra workshop on Tuesday evenings in March.

He’s been clogging up the airwaves with his “January in Duluth” posts … now it’s time to bid him farewell.
Before he flees, he has agreed to give us a presentation on what he’s been up to.
