Where in Duluth? PDD 15th Anniversary Challenge #14 of 15

If you’ve followed Perfect Duluth Day for long, you know how to play “Where in Duluth?” A photo from an undisclosed spot is posted, people guess the location in the comments, someone eventually gets it right and everyone else admires that person’s brilliance. But now, as part of PDD’s 15th anniversary celebration, there are prizes on the line.

Duluth’s Duluthiest website celebrates its anniversary on Friday, June 29, at Wade Stadium as the Duluth Huskies face the Thunder Bay Border Cats in Northwoods League baseball. PDD will have a canopy at the game from 6 to 9 p.m. and representatives will be on hand to pass out birthday cake and give away various prizes. There will also be a drawing with 15 names in it for three special prizes — for the “Where in Duluth?” champions.

Here’s how the “Where in Duluth?” challenge works:

  • As opposed to the usual “Where in Duluth?” posts, the contest images feature the PDD Angry Seagull mascot in the frame.
  • As usual, the first person to guess the correct location in the comments to the post is the winner.
  • Each winner will be entered into a drawing for the three fabulous prizes.
  • The drawing will be held at Wade Stadium the night of the party. Winners need not be present to collect a prize.

Prizes:

Daypack: A North Bay Daypack with padded laptop sleeve from Frost River. This classic pack is styled in waxed canvas. Check out more from Frost River on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

Loll Chair: A charcoal grey Adirondack chair from Loll Designs. Check out more from Loll Designs on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

Rafting Adventure: A 4-to-6-person excursion from Minnesota Whitewater Rafting. The winner will receive a certificate good for a 4.4-mile trip on the St. Louis River this summer in a dam-controlled area. Learn more about Minnesota Whitewater Rafting on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

Good luck with your “Where in Duluth?” speed and skills. See you at PDDXV!

All of the above are incorrect.

Is this out along Brighton Beach? Based on the trees and whatnot I want to say that is not "up" the hill but rather closer to the lake or St. Louis River.

Paul Lundgren

It's not Brighton Beach.

Rachel Wagner

It's that golf course near the disk golf course, near the Twin Ponds.

Rachel Wagner

ok, amending my answer. Is it the grassy, treed area by the Enger Trails, north of the Twin Ponds, that abuts the Enger Park golf course and the Miller Creek disk golf course?

Paul Lundgren

Nope. It's not in the Enger Park or Chambers Grove Park vicinity.

All incorrect. I'll offer this hint: It is not a cemetery or golf course.

Blackmer Park?

From these fun yet frustrating challenges I have learned that I really need to get out more AND while I'm out there I need to be more observant of my surroundings. This has taught me that I need to find perceptive ways to Explore my World! Thanx for opening my eyes😲

Paul Lundgren

Not Woodland, not Blackmer Park and not Keene Creene Park.

Here is a clue: It's not in a park, but it's very close to a thing that is considered a park, but also not considered a park.

Spirit Mountain?

Paul Lundgren

Nope. Maybe the clue would be better phrased this way: It's close to a thing that is managed by Duluth Parks and Rec and listed as a city park, but most people don't really consider it a "park."

Somethin2Say

Arlington Athletic Complex - (soccer fields)🤞

Paul Lundgren

Nope, not there.

Magney Snively Nature Area?

Paul Lundgren

Magney-Snively is just a straight-up park. Think in terms of something like Skyline Parkway, which is a scenic road connecting various parks and not really a park itself, yet it's listed as a park because the Parks Dept. manages it and it's sort of a park-like attraction.

Somethin2Say

Western Waterfront Trail🙏

moosetracks

Since Skyline is the example, it's obviously not that.... The Piedmont Trails?

Jim Gunderson

Looking at the City of Duluth Parks listing the only thing I can see that would qualify is Canal Park or Wheeler park

Paul Lundgren

Western Waterfront and Piedmont trails are other good examples, but neither is it. Jim, you missed it on that list. It's not Canal Park or Wheeler, but it's on the list of city parks.

Paul Lundgren

Yes, the Lakewalk. But the photo wasn't taken on the Lakewalk. It's near the Lakewalk.

So we've narrowed the terrain.

Grosvenor Square

Paul Lundgren

Not Grosvenor Square. The answer isn't a spot that can be described by name, really. It's more like "over by the blabbity blah at such and such."

Jim Gunderson

Near Lester river by the Limnos U.M.D building

At the end of Alexander St area, where I-35 turns into London Rd?

Northern_Owlbear

Is it up from the Ledges?

Paul Lundgren

I've got to give the win to Northern Owlbear. It is indeed the area on Water Street across from the Ledges townhomes.

Congrats! OwlBear...and Thanx for ending my insanity on this one...I was onto this answer too but ya beat me too it...well-done!

Northern_Owlbear

These have been so frustrating! (In a good way.) You can't not agonize over them until the answer is found.
