Advice on Places to Elope in Duluth

My fiance and I are from Southern Minnesota and are planning on eloping on May 30 in the Duluth area. Our immediate family is coming as well. We were thinking we would either want to be married on a beach or on an overlook on Superior Hiking Trail. I really like the idea of an overlook but I don’t want all of us to have to hike two hours to reach it. Do any of you have any ideas of which beaches would be best and where some of the best overlooks in Duluth are (preferably with a view of the water) within a reasonable walking distance? We also are looking for a plan B if it rains. Somewhere outside but with a gazebo or a nice looking building etc. Both of us want to get married outside and don’t want the rain to ruin our plans! Suggestions?

There is a wealth of options for what you're looking for in Duluth as I'm sure will be pointed out in comments to follow. My suggestion is Enger Park. It has the views you're looking for, a parking lot for your guests so they don't have to hike two hours, as well as a gazebo and covered picnic area should it rain. Congratulations and good luck!

Definition of elope: run away secretly in order to get married, esp. without parental consent.

Regardless of that, Enger Park is a great suggestion. Another option would be Brighton Beach.

Congratulations! Oldenberg Point in Jay Cooke State Park would be excellent. Many beautiful weddings, big and small, have been performed there. It's also comfortable enough to host a reception.

I think Enger has to be reserved/paid for.

We were going to get married at the Lakeview shelter at Gooseberry--lake views, parking nearby, bathrooms, and an enclosed shelter with a fireplace to have the ceremony if it rains. I still think its a great place for a wedding/party. http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/gooseberry_falls/lakeview.html

(In the end we decided to do an actual elopement at the Cook County courthouse on day one of our Circle Tour honeymoon. What you are doing is a "small, informal wedding," not eloping. Congrats all the same!)

Brighton Beach is great...or if you're up for a drive, Palisade Head north of Silver Bay is awesome.

Here is the city of Duluth's web page regarding weddings in parks.

Duluth has a lot to answer for

I do not sit comfortably with publicly rebuking the City of Duluth whether or not I am half a continent...
