Sofa on the beach

One of my favorite things about Duluth beaches are that they are, all things considered, remarkably clean, and I make a point of picking up trash on beaches should I find some. However, I’ve met my match. There is a sofa on the beach just below the 26th Avenue East entrance to the Lakewalk. It’s already a pretty grim sight, and is only going to get worse. Two quick questions:

1. Is anyone willing to help haul it up off the beach?
2. Any ideas of how to dispose of it once we do?

Does anybody know if we could get the city to help us? i.e. we drag it up to the lakewalk (no easy task) and they could send a truck along the Lakewalk to pick it up? I doubt the city has resources right now to send a crew down to the beach to recover it, but they might be able to pick it up when they empty trash cans.

-1 can Kingsford charcoal lighter fluid
-matches
-hotdogs, buns, condiments
-marshmallows, hershey bars, graham crackers
-skewers for above

Problem solved. Just remember to pack it out when you leave.

I hope you guys are kidding about burning it. Most sofas have foam ... and maybe fire retardant chemicals? in them. Just more pollution into the lake, and yourself if you think holding marshmallows over burning poison sounds grand. MMMMmmm.

Pull it up to the Lakewalk, and call the City. If it's on the Lakewalk, they'll get more than your call, and it will be taken care of soon enough.

I can be down there at 7pm tonight but I will not attempt it by myself.  Are there three other people that want to come and help drag it up the slope?  I will also call the city to tell them that it might (if someone else comes) be near the parking lot and ready to get picked up tomorrow morning.  What department would be best to call?  Parks?

I called a solid waste compliance officer in the city's Life Safety Division and she said she'll make sure it gets taken care of. You don't need to haul it anywhere, but it might help her if you have more specific instructions on where to find it. Maybe it sticks out like an old couch; maybe it doesn't.

Well, if the city has it covered I'm not going to worry. It's on the first beach you come to if you use the 26th Street entrance to the Lakewalk (my son and I refer to it as Molotov Beach because we once saw some teenagers throwing Molotov cocktails there. Different story). The last time I saw it it was east of the path I used to get to the beach, but it has moved around. It is basically impossible to miss.
