Kitten Found on 15th Ave. E. & Third St.

I found an all-black kitten I would guess was about 3-4 months old. It was very friendly and meowed a lot. Seemed used to people since it ran up to me and followed me home. Knocked on about 17 doors nearby and couldn’t find an owner. Couldn’t bring it home to my own cats (risk of FeLV, worms, fleas, etc). I brought it to animal control where it is being housed. I spoke with Animal Allies who said that I needed to go through animal control rather than bringing it directly to a shelter. I am hoping that the kitty makes it there or someone on here sees this and claims the sweet little guy (or girl). If this is your cat, please post or call animal control on 27th Avenue West.

I call Animal Allies the Animal Allies Hotel & Spa. I love that they have a no-kill policy. Your kitten will be ok. The same thing happened to us, we found a little black kitty on the street. Fed her for a few days, but our cats did not like her, and my girl would not promise to help with the kitty litter. So we brought her to animal control, and then visited her after she'd been transferred to the AA hotel & spa. You did the right thing. Such little kitties are much safer at AA than leaving them on the street.

Thanks, Claire. I was worried because when I asked the officers at animal control if they could guarantee this kitten would make it to animal allies, they said they couldn't guarantee anything and that many of them are euthanized...I started to wonder what their protocol is in terms of which animals are euthanized and why...I don't know why animal allies would have told me to bring it to animal control if they thought euthanasia was an outcome. They just said the animal would be held there at the city for 5 days. I just adopted a kitten a few days ago and he was held there before getting to AA, and I know a large portion of the kitties I've seen up there were held by the city first, so I felt somewhat comfortable leaving it there. The whole experience made me wonder what exactly the officers meant though (about many of them being euthanized).

Hunh... We found the kitty, and my friend Pat who works for AA told me strays have to be taken to the city first (animal control) while if you abandon the animal, you can abandon it with AA. My teenager and I actually went to the pound to visit the kitty a few days later, but it was so sad there, the girl cried and we left. But we visited the kitty at AA, and she'd indeed been delivered there after a week at the pound like we were told she would be. No one ever mentioned euthanasia at the pound. If they had, I would have kept the cat and done something else to make sure she lived. I think they have to stay at the pound first to make sure there's not someone looking for them and also to make sure they have no infectious diseases. I'm going to ask my friend Pat about the pound, and if they do euthanize any cats there, she if anyone would know, would know.

I am not sure about the kill/no kill policy at animal control. I think they euth. the ones deemed "not adoptable" for various reasons. It's good to bring in strays -- life on the street is not easy. I worked at animal control in IL. Thanks for helping the kitties, Sidvicious and Claire.

We found our little black kitten a week before Halloween. I knew she was safer off the streets than left there.

I think there is a black kitty living under my steps. She is very short and wide, and has a white patch running the length of her back.

Adam, I have those kitties under my garden shed sometimes -- SO cute, short, striped, and wide! LOL

If anyone wants some canned kitten food... I have some cans left from when we were feeding our little stray.

I spied a momma skunk with her albino babies behind the Anchor Bar yesterday evening.
