This Old House

We have a 1904 model house and we are thinking of a big remodel. I would like to know if anyone has recommendations for someone that could come in and tell us our redesign and construction options.

Have away. Thanks

I'd highly recommend Donovan McCorrison of A Level Above Construction. Very detail oriented, bids explained down to every nail used, high quality work with lots of local references, very tidy, and a friendly person to boot. 591-0040

Hi -- Dann Edholm is a local builder, contractor and accomplished carpenter. He is down to earth, has headed up many of the downtown buildings refurbishments, including the latest Zeppa projects east of Lake Avenue, what they are calling "Old Downtown" now, I guess. He can steer you on the right way to do things and keep a lid on costs while doing it. His phone number is (218) 348-9434

Hugh Reitan at Builder's Commonwealth. The guy is a treasure trove of information about and feeling for older homes.

I only know one side of the story, but a few years ago some friends went to Builders Commonwealth to get some plans drawn up for a remodeling project with an $80,000 budget, which they claim they stipulated in no uncertain terms up front. Builders Commonwealth took some money and generated some plans, but what they drew up was more in the $300,000 range. Or so the story goes.

Don't forget to shop for great period doors, trimwork, plumbing & lighting at North Shore Architectural Antiques in Two Harbors. (shameless self promotion)

My name is Jeff Anderson. I'm a Duluth native who's just returned after 10 years in South Africa. I've been a contractor/designer for 14 years. I'm pragmatic and extremely creative and believe in making the best use of what you've got and spending money in the right places. Scavenging cool old building material is my favorite. I'd be keen to come have a look if your still needing some advice. Thanks.
